Dowlings of Canada 1

"Hello, I am Ronald  Dowling and I am Canadian"
The Maple leaf is the symbol of Canada

I was born in 1956 and live in Halifax in Nova Scotia on the East coast of Canada.
I have 7 brothers and 4 sisters.

Nova Scotia

All I know about my ancestors so far is that my Great Great Grandfather & Great Great Grandmother, Henry & Fanny, were tailors at Hastings, Sussex County, England.
My great grandfather's name was Herbert Edward John Dowling (Henry's son), born 2 Sep 1874, Hastings, East Sussex, England.
Royal Engineers Embroidered Grenade Badge - Something similar would have been worn by Herbert Dowling
Herbert was with the Royal Engineers and married Mary Flanagan in the Garrison Church, Halifax. Clergyman from the Church of England. She was born in Tongs (?spelling), Upper Burma.  Her father was Denis & mother Amelia.

Many of the family are found in the 1881 census but are noticably missing from the 1901 UK census indicating they emigrated before 1901.
