The wedding was held in the Hop Farm Country Park. This was about a year or so after it became law that marriages could take place in places other than churches and council offices. The Hop Farm had several old Oast houses that had been converted for functions to support its nearby heavy horse stables.

The wedding took place at 4:30 PM in glorious weather. Barbera arrived in a dray pulled by two magnificent heavy horses and then proceeded to an oast house where James, the witnesses and guests were assembled. There was music supplied by the 'Best Man' Connor, a professional singer, as Barbera entered the room. Jean Dowling was Matron of Honour.

Following the wedding we moved to a reception next to the oast house for meal and disco. Barbera hardly stopped dancing all night!

In the evening they went to London for night out at the theatre watching the "Black Mikado" at the Cambridge Theatre. After a meal they returned to their home 23 Lemonfield Drive, Garston, Hertfordshire. As most of their savings had been put into the purchase of a home there was no honeymoon.
