This is not a comprehensive list of medals but illustrations, as they become available, of medals that Dowlings would have won.
The Victoria Cross
Issued since the Crimean War (1854) this is the primary award for gallantry. Contrary to popular beliefs this medal has been given to civilians (who normally receive the George Cross). Only one Dowling has been given this distinction.
Medals of the Great War
1914-15 Star British War Medal 1914-20 Victory Medal To those who served anywhere from 5 Aug 1914 to 31 Dec 1915 (unless they had a 1914 Star (similar)) About six and a half million awarded, most in silver, some in bronze. About six million medals to those with the Star and most with the British War Medal.
