from Galway, well-known activist in the film movement, former television and film producer and former Artistic Director of the Abbey Theatre.  Nominated in 1993 as the first chairperson of the Irish Film Board, based in his native Galway, following Ireland's Oscar in The Crying Game and films like My Left Foot and The Commitments.
