Mick
Dowling former
Irish Olympic Boxer and now (1993) a respected Irish coach said, in
the aftermath of Ireland's two Olympic medals in 1992, "Whether
boxing people like it or not, it is a working man's
sport". The Drimnagh Boxing Club, Dublin, from which the
Republic's gold-medal winner graduated, epitomises the real heart of
Irish amateur boxing.

| Bill Dowling of Kilkenny says "Mick
Dowling...the Olympic Boxer [3 bronze medals]).
My Dad says, Mick Dowling was on a Boxing Bill
at the Albert Hall that I attended when I was a kid. I remember the
occasion well as it had Mohammed Ali on the bill doing an exhibition
match and it had Alan Minter gaining a
light-heavyweight title, but I don't remember Mick Dowling being
there." |
