1759 Irish Brigades in the Service of France

List of Irishmen who served in the Armies of France; extracted from the De la Ponce M.S.S., in the Library of the Royal Irish Academy, Dublin.

In 1759, the French Government commanded preparations on an extensive scale to be made for the invasion of the British Isles. Twenty-five thousand men, including the Irish Brigade, were to take part in the enterprise; and the enthusiastic Franco-Irish Officers did not doubt that, if the force could once land and obtain a first success, the whole Catholic population of Ireland would rise to support it.
