The Ancient Dowlings

These pages are based on the book called Irish Pedigrees or The Origin and Stem of the Irish Nation by John O'Hart published in 1892 by James Duffy & Co. Ltd. This book is probably available to read on a special order from your local library. The part is based on genealogies taken from the Bible so they are as accurate as you believe them to be.

Some of his other links are, I believe, suspect but I have not found a document correcting them and the existence of the individuals is supported from ancient documents. But when people live more than 100 years in ancient times I think that is an excuse to fill the gap in years where generations have been forgotten.

I have entered the pedigree for Dowlings in Brøderbund's Family Tree Maker.

The package lets me have a family home page which I used for more recent Dowlings and does not provide sufficient space for these Ancients so they are listed here. The list, however, has been generated automatically by that program and gives all I have typed. Like all other genealogy programs I have looked at it does not handle BC dates let alone AM (Anno Mundi) or AU (Annals of Ulster). Therefore, the dates were entered in a location field which ends up looking a little ungrammatical hear and there.

The lists, with some supporting history, is broken down into several pages here are the links to those pages and a few much shorter pages from his second volume which has 'mentions' of Dowlings.
