Timeline: |
In the later half of the 12th century Anglo-Norman armies invaded Ireland. They established colonies in various parts of Ireland marking the beginning of large-scale migration across the Irish Sea. Meanwhile, Irish men and women continued to leave for England. Their presence in Britain from the Middle Ages is indicated by surnames such as le Yreys, Irlond, Hibernia and Iryssh.
