This is a pair of hand painted "ashtrays" Actually I don't think they were used as ashtrays and I don't think anyone would want to use them as such because they are too pretty.
Each of them are painted with a pair of birds, one in blue and the other in dark red. I am not positive, but I do believe the signature is Dowling.
They are both trimmed in heavy gold and each have handles. The total width of each of them, including the handle is 6 1/2" There are no markings on the bottom, just a tiny pinhole at the area the handle opens into the dish.
