This is a 9 1/2" Norleans China plate made in 1972 and commemorating Lt. Richard W. "Dick" Dowling and the Battle of Sabine Pass, which occurred on September 8, 1863. Lt. Dowling is considered the hero of the battle, and the state park at Sabine Pass, Texas, was named for him.

This is a transferware plate with dark brown graphics on a white background.
